DIY Candles
While candle making is not as easy as melting some wax, anyone can make a great looking and smelling candle right in their own kitchen.
All you must have is a pan to melt your wax, a wick, and a container to pour your hot wax into. Simple Right? Well, not really. If you are making the candles for yourself, the above is fine. If you want to give the candle as a gift or even turn your hobby into a business, it takes a little more.
When you start adding scents and colors things get complicated. To make a safe candle you must know the flash point of your wax, what the scent does to the wax and what the color does to the wax, and what your burning candles will do to your container.
Each scent will have a different flash point when added to your wax this will bring your candle flash point down. You want to make sure that each candle you make is safe to burn.
Here are some basic supplies that you will need. 1. Melting pot- can be made for melting wax or any non stick pan. 2. Thermometer - smoking wax is way too hot and can catch on fire. 3.Container- not all containers are candle safe. 4.Scent/ color 5.Wick
Once you get the basics down, you can start having fun creating your own unique designs. The sky is the limit on what type of candles you make.
